In a routine move that occurs prior to each budget season, the Philomath City Council unanimously approved Finance Director Mike Murzynsky to serve as the city’s 2026-27 budget officer, a position that falls under the supervision of the city manager.

Philomath’s finance director has served in the role of budget officer for the past 30-plus years, City Manager Chris Workman said. The appointment falls under Oregon Department of Revenue requirements.

The city’s Budget Committee is scheduled to hold its first meeting on April 29, an evening that will include a public hearing on possible uses of state-shared revenues and a review of budget documents. Other budget meetings would then follow in May and June leading up to a possible adoption by the City Council on June 8.
