The Philomath Park Advisory Board plans to meet Tuesday to make final preparations for this summer’s Music in the Park series and to consider the naming of a picnic shelter at a local park.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. April 7 at Philomath City Hall and will be livestreamed on the city’s YouTube channel.

Music in the Park discussion items include marketing, sponsorships, food vendors and event activities, and concert host volunteers.

The board has confirmed the following concert lineup:

  • Thursday, May 21 — Philomath School District bands (local students)
  • Wednesday, June 10 — Blood on the Plow (John Cougar Mellencamp tribute band)
  • Sunday, June 28 — Skip Jones and the Spirit of New Orleans (rhythm and blues, classic rock)
  • Wednesday, July 8 — Katalysst (folk rock)
  • Sunday, July 26 — Great American Trainwreck (Americana)
  • Wednesday, Aug. 12 — Dave’s Killer Band (jazz fusion)
  • Sunday, Aug. 23 — DTW Lite Trio (jazz, funk)

The agenda also includes consideration of a request by an unnamed individual who would like to donate all or the majority of the funding needed for a new roof on the Marys River Park and Natural Area picnic shelter, a project that could cost up to $19,000. The donor requested that the park shelter be named in memory of the late Betty Olson. In 1987, the city purchased a 28-acre property from Olson with the intent of adding public facilities and creating an open park.
