A guest speaker from the Alzheimer’s Association will present “Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia” at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Dementia Warriors meeting at Peace Lutheran Church.

The presentation covers the impact of Alzheimer’s, the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia, stages and risk factors, current research and treatments available, and Alzheimer’s Association resources.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, accounting for 60% to 80% of dementia cases, and dementia is not considered a normal part of aging. The Alzheimer’s Association serves over 7 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s and their nearly 12 million caregivers.

The meeting is open to anyone interested in learning more about Alzheimer’s and dementia.

The Dementia Warriors support group meets from 2:30-4 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday each month at the church, which is located at 2540 Applegate St., in Philomath.
