Our Philomath Sensational Senior Society has been growing and flourishing of late. At our May 5 crafting session at Maxtivity, we had the largest group to date, enjoying a great time learning the art of quilling, led by the accomplished and encouraging Mary T. Fun and laughter were had by all!

On May 12, our PSSS group met at Rebekah’s Lodge to learn tips on personal safety and self-defense. A small but mighty group will now have more confidence as they travel about.

PSSS is open to all ages 55 and older who live in the Philomath area and is free to attend. You can drop in for any session or come to all of them — you will be welcomed and included.

Upcoming events:

  • On Tuesday, June 2, at Maxtivity on Main Street at 10 a.m., the very crafty Jane Sherwood will lead a decoupage session. Attendees will have the opportunity to make colorful vases for gifts or to display in their homes.
  • On Tuesday, June 9, at Rebekah’s Lodge (North 13th and College) at 10 a.m., PSSS members will be treated to the delightful Brazilian baking of our own Juliana. Not only will you be able to taste amazing flavors, but Juliana will give a cooking demonstration with recipes to take home and try. Juliana has quite the reputation for her cooking, and her warm personality will endear her to you.

PSSS events will take a break during July and August. Many members have travel plans, so we are scheduling a summer hiatus and will resume Sept. 1 at Maxtivity for crafts and Sept. 8 at Rebekah’s Lodge. All events take place on Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m., making them easy to remember.

We are also pondering the possibility of expanding to a third week each month. Please attend the June 2 Maxtivity craft session to learn more.
