Philomath High School’s appearance in the 4A District 1 tournament Saturday at Scappoose featured a single wrestler in Addison Liddell. As a freshman, Liddell was competing in her first district tournament and she was able to post at least one victory.

Liddell opened the tournament with a loss by pin against Regis sophomore Ruby Miller. But she regrouped to defeat Estacada sophomore Camila Spieth with a pin of her own in 2:30.

Liddell dominated the match from the start with a 6-0 lead by the end of the first period with a takedown and three-point nearfall. In the second period, Liddell again got her opponent on her back and won on the pin. She was leading 8-0 on points at the time.

Liddell advanced to face Newport sophomore Jaidyn Nastiuk and lost on a pin in 2:33. Nastiuk jumped out to a 7-0 lead through the first period but Liddell fought back in the second period and nearly came away with a pin. She settled for a four-point nearfall but Nastiuk midway through the period executed a reversal. Liddell just 13 seconds later countered with her own reversal and trailed 9-6. Nastiuk got yet another reversal, however, and then got the pin for the win.

Liddell finishes the season with a 12-14 record.

Another freshman, Sarah Robertson, had a good season for PHS with an 11-4 record and No. 6 ranking but saw her season cut short with an injury.
