FRIDAY, DEC. 27
• 4:57 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 about 2 miles north of Redmond that took the life of Rebecka Ann Perinne, 43, of La Pine. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a 45-year-old Madras man was driving north in a Ford F250 when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed the centerline and struck head-on a Jeep Wrangler driven by Perinne. Perinne was declared deceased at the scene. The Ford’s driver was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
• 5:30 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 224 near Barton in Clackamas County that took the life of Matthew Leroy Cooper, 43, of Portland. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Cooper was driving west in a Jeep Cherokee and attempted a left-hand turn into a parking lot into the path of an eastbound Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by a 44-year-old Portland resident. Cooper, who was not believed to be wearing a seatbelt, was declared deceased at the scene. The Hyundai’s driver was reportedly not injured. OSP determined an unsafe left turn to be considered as the primary cause of the crash.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 1
• 10:26 p.m. — Troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 about 15 miles south of La Grande that took the lives of Robert Fred Kenyon, 60, of Nampa, Idaho, and Steven Bradly Botter, 47, of Spokane, Washington. According to OSP’s preliminary investigation, Kenyon was stopped in a chain-up area along I-84 installing chains on his semi-truck due to roadway conditions. A semi-truck driven by Botter was headed west on the interstate and for unknown reasons left the roadway and hit the parked truck. Another westbound semi-truck, operated by a 28-year-old Fresno, California, man, struck the other two trucks that were forced onto the roadway from the collision. Kenyon and Botter were declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the third truck was transported to a hospital. The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
