A 24-year-old Philomath woman faces felony assault, drunken driving and various other charges in connection with a crash in Corvallis at Southwest Philomath Boulevard and Southwest 35th Street late Monday afternoon that sent a man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, the Corvallis Police Department reported.

Police responded to a report of a four-vehicle crash at the intersection at approximately 4:45 p.m. Dec. 9. The investigation indicated that Kala Baldwin was driving west on Philomath Boulevard in a Ford Mustang when she allegedly failed to stop for a red light at 35th Street.

“Baldwin’s vehicle collided with a stopped Volvo, which was pushed into a stopped Jeep SUV, which subsequently struck a stopped Mazda pickup,” Corvallis Police reported in a news release.

Police said the driver of the Volvo, 54-year-old Corvallis resident Roy Frank, sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center by ambulance. Occupants of the other vehicles suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

Officers determined that Baldwin was intoxicated at the time of the crash. According to police, an analysis showed a blood alcohol content of 0.15% or more. She was arrested and taken to the Benton County Jail.

Baldwin was arrested on charges of felony third-degree assault and five misdemeanors — driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and three counts of recklessly endangering another person. Benton County Circuit Court on Tuesday ordered attorney Dan Armstrong to represent Baldwin.

Police said the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Corvallis Police Department.
