The Philomath City Council approved an ordinance to annex 3.56 acres of property into the city during its Monday night meeting at Philomath City Hall.
The council last month approved the annexation of a 1.99-acre property along with a section of North Ninth Street. Public hearings were held before the Planning Commission on June 17 and City Council on July 22.
“This is an ordinance that officially and legally brings that property inside the city limits,” City Manager Chris Workman said. “It also includes the legal description for that portion of Ninth Street, which just was never annexed prior with any of the other properties on Ninth Street that came in.”
The property sits on the east side of North Ninth Street adjacent to Marilyn Drive. It currently has an unoccupied house and two outbuildings. Although the section street is now in the city limits, Benton County will continue to have jurisdiction over the street and handle maintenance.
Upon annexation, the property automatically enters the city as medium-density residential. The council denied a request to rezone it as high-density residential.
Workman said Monday night that he had not received an appeal from the applicant on the rezoning issue and after talking to a representative, he does not anticipate one.
The vote to approve the annexation passed on a 7-0 roll-call vote.
