Philomath High’s girls basketball team, ranked No. 2 by the OSAA, improved to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the Oregon West Conference Tuesday night with a 61-26 victory at North Marion.

The Warriors led just 15-13 through the first eight minutes but erupted in the second quarter with a 27-5 run to take control. Freshman Reagan Heiken came off the bench and scored 14 of her game-high 21 points in the second quarter.

Philomath’s offense has shown hints of a higher scoring output over the past two weeks with 60-plus points in three of its last four games. In the win over North Marion, 34 points came from players off the bench — Heiken representing the high majority but also junior Mica Boynton, freshman Annaleise Brown, junior Cali Cannon and freshman Jordyn Hood contributing.

Among the starters, junior Anneka Steen had 10 points on five field goals. Sophomore Emily Taunisila and junior Zoee Howard had nine and eight, respectively.

The Warriors are scheduled to play at 7 p.m. Friday on the road against Sweet Home. The Huskies have struggled this season to a 1-11 record.
