Downing Research Forest and the next steps in the South 16th Street extension project both appear on the Philomath School Board’s meeting agenda on Wednesday, Dec. 13.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. in the Philomath School District’s office at 1620 Applegate St.

The Downing discussion relates to the latest involving a reforestation plan. According to Philomath High forestry teacher Simon Babcock, Starker Forests donated seedlings that will be planted with the end result being 435 trees per acre of land. PHS forestry classes and students will plant the trees.

Specifics on what may be discussed about the road project does not appear in the meeting packet but it is known that the city has been preparing easement documents for the school district. The project will extend South 16th Street behind Philomath Elementary and curve to the east to connect with Cedar Street.

Other items on the agenda include a proposed 2023-24 calendar revision, a strategic planning contract, declaring a newspaper of record, Oregon School Boards Association elections and a budget-related resolution.

The public will be provided with time for comments toward the beginning of the meeting. Reports from student government, associations and administration are also on the schedule.

The Philomath School District office is located at 1620 Applegate St., with access to the meeting through a door at the back of the building. Meetings are also streamed on the school district’s YouTube channel.
