The Philomath Planning Commission is getting ready to bring three years of work on the city’s zoning and development rules to the public. On Monday night, the City Council will get a look at how commissioners plan to do it.

The council’s regular meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at Philomath City Hall. It will also be livestreamed on the city’s YouTube channel.

The Planning Commission and city staff have spent about three years on updates to the zoning map, the tables of allowed uses and the development code for residential, commercial and industrial property, City Manager Chris Workman said through a staff report in the meeting materials.

Formal public hearings are about four months away, and the commission has drawn up an outreach plan for the months in between.

The council doesn’t need to take any formal action on the item, but councilors are invited to take part in the outreach, including joint open houses with the Planning Commission on Dec. 7 and Feb. 16. Each open house would have drop-in tables by topic, such as the zoning map, the code changes and what the changes mean for an individual property.

Residents could come and go over a few hours and talk one-on-one with a commissioner, a councilor and a staff member.

The plan also lists a wide range of other outreach ideas, from door-to-door canvassing in affected neighborhoods to an information booth at a high school basketball game.

The meeting opens with a presentation on the FRIEND Firefighter Camp by David Barron, a report on the city’s Citizens’ Academy and certificates for its participants. The council will then consider a resolution in recognition of Veterans Day, which falls on Wednesday.

Under business items, the council is scheduled to select a grand marshal for the Light Parade and discuss City Day at the Capitol, set for Jan. 26.

Near the end of the meeting, the council plans to go into executive session, as allowed under state law, to consult with legal counsel about current or likely litigation and to deliberate on real property negotiations.

The council will then reconvene in public session before adjourning.
