Editor’s note: The two death notice versions are nearly identical. The newspaper accounts misspell Mrs. Breese’s surname and her headstone dates indicate she was 77, not 78 as reported. According to family records, Jane Sargent married Willis P. Breese, likely in the 1830s in Pennsylvania or Ohio. Census records show she was born in Pennsylvania. The couple had two sons and four daughters between 1837 and 1854. Her husband died in 1876 in Wisconsin.
