Registration is open for the Philomath Mat Club’s 2026-27 season, a youth wrestling program for kindergarten through eighth grade.
The club’s season typically runs from mid-November through the end of January with all practices held in the Philomath High School wrestling room. Wrestlers in kindergarten through fourth grade practice from 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Fifth- through eighth-graders practice from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
All club wrestlers may compete in Saturday tournaments during the season. Those in fifth through eighth grade also compete in a middle school league that includes more than a dozen schools across the Willamette Valley.
The club describes its mission as serving the community through wrestling while helping young athletes build character on and off the mat.
Registration is a two-step process. Families must first purchase a USA Wrestling athlete membership, which costs $65 and provides insurance coverage. Members receive a USA Wrestling card with a membership number. Club organizers ask families to buy the membership before registering with the club, since the club registration form includes a place to upload a copy of the card.
The second step is completing the club’s online registration form. The club fee is $75 for kindergarten through fourth grade and $125 for fifth through eighth grade.
Wrestlers who register by Oct. 19 will receive a team T-shirt. Scholarships are available.
Families with children who are new to wrestling can arrange to attend a practice to see whether the sport is a good fit by emailing philomathmatclub@gmail.com.
