Benton County residents looking to get rid of old mattresses and box springs will have a chance to do so for free Saturday at the Benton County Fairgrounds.
The collection event, part of the Mattress Recycling Council’s Bye Bye Mattress program, runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the fairgrounds’ south parking lot at 110 SW 53rd St. in Corvallis. Organizers say vehicles should enter from Reservoir Avenue.
The event is open to Benton County residents only.
The free recycling is made possible through an Oregon state law and the Bye Bye Mattress program, which aims to give residents more convenient options for recycling the bulky items without paying disposal fees.
The Mattress Recycling Council is a nonprofit organization founded by the bedding industry. It operates recycling programs in Oregon and other states that have passed mattress recycling laws and recycles nearly 2 million mattresses each year.
A second collection event is scheduled the same day in Linn County at Mari-Linn School in Lyons from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
For questions about the fairgrounds event, call 541-224-1339. Information on additional mattress recycling sites and events around Oregon is available at ByeByeMattress.com.
