The Philomath School Board will hold its regular monthly meeting Thursday evening with Superintendent of Schools Susan Halliday set to brief the board on the district’s safety and emergency response protocols.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Aug. 20 in the Philomath High School Community Conference Room.
The safety report will walk through the district’s Emergency Action Plan, which is built around a color-coded, six-term response system — hold, secure, lockdown, evacuate, shelter and room clear.
Beyond the safety briefing, the meeting opens with a run of reports covering the Philomath High School turf project, association updates, the superintendent’s report and a financial report.
The board will then move into a lengthy strategy and discussion session, headlined by an update on the district’s 2026-27 objectives. Other discussion items include meal planning for an Aug. 25 inservice day, interdistrict transfer updates and planning for a board retreat that would tackle the local option levy, board liaison roles, the facility replacement schedule and district objectives.
The board is also expected to discuss superintendent and board self-evaluations, a collective bargaining agreement language update, budget committee vacancies and a PERS bond/side account discussion.
A proposed student trip to Costa Rica, led by Alice Eldridge and Andrea Heidinger, is also on the agenda, with proposed dates of March 18-26, 2028, over spring vacation.
Under action items, the board will consider a slate of policy updates, including student conduct on school buses, credit for proficiency and a policy addressing immigration enforcement on district property, along with a surplus property item.
