Philomath High juniors Esias Sapp and Jamin Peters were first-team selections to the all-Oregon West Conference team, which was released this week by the league.
Two other PHS players, junior Kaden Howard and sophomore Dreyton Nuño, earned spots as honorable mention selections.
Sapp led the Warriors in scoring this season at 15.4 points per game and also averaged 5.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists. Peters averaged in double figures for scoring as well at 11.2 points and was the team’s top rebounder at 7.8 per game.
Philomath finished the regular season at 13-9 overall and was the league runner-up with a 7-3 record. The team earned a spot in the Class 4A playoffs with the first round scheduled for Friday against a yet-to-be-announced opponent.
Based on a vote of the conference’s coaches, league champion Newport swept the top honors. Cubs senior guard Aaidyn Bokuro won both Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. Bokuro averaged 18 points, 8.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game for Newport. Will Burghardt was named Coach of the Year after directing the Cubs to a 19-4 record.
In addition to Bokuro, Sapp and Peters, the rest of the first team included Newport senior Easton Herrmann, Cascade sophomore Brody Anundi, Stayton senior Ruben Reyes and Sweet Home junior Bradyn McClure.
On the second team are Stayton’s Mason Silbernagel, Sweet Home’s Mason Tyler, Cascade’s Brysen Higgins, North Marion’s Lucas Fowler and Newport’s Collin Fierro.
Among the honorable mention selections, Howard averaged 8.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists for the Warriors this season. Nuño had averages of 7.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.
Others receiving honorable mention honors were North Marion’s Raef Hammack, Miles Gianella and Riley Jones, Sweet Home’s Kellen Hartsook, Stayton’s Oliver Hunt and Cascade’s Felix Prenevost.
