Editor’s note: This report is based on information submitted by the Philomath Police Department. All calls for service may not be included. The status of incidents might change after further investigation. Locations are approximate and may not be included if it could identify victims of certain crimes of a sensitive nature (sexual abuse, stalking, etc.). Individuals are identified in the log only if arrested on felony charges. Calls that involve the Department of Human Services and minor children are not included. Juveniles are not identified. People arrested or suspected of crimes are considered innocent until proven otherwise.

FRIDAY, FEB. 20

• Police arrested a 56-year-old Philomath woman (time of arrest not reported) in the 600 block of Main Street on a misdemeanor charge of harassment with physical content/simple assault.

• 5:11 p.m. — Police arrested a 36-year-old Philomath man in the 200 block of North 13th Street on a warrant for failure to appear in court on a criminal citation. The man was cited and released.

Other calls: Police responses included a welfare check (College Street), cattle on road at 12:11 p.m. (South 13th Street and Chapel Drive), suspicious person at 1:49 p.m. (Newton Street) and a welfare check at 9:53 p.m. (South 15th Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 1:23 a.m. (Main Street). PPD reported four traffic stops.

SATURDAY, FEB. 21

• 3:35 p.m. — Police arrested a 43-year-old Philomath man in the 1800 block of College Street on a warrant for failure to appear in court on a criminal citation and on a misdemeanor charge of third-degree criminal mischief with crime damage.

• 5:33 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a Benton County Public Works street and stop sign for Wooded Knolls that was found on the back property line in the 700 block of North 12th Street. Police said it appeared that someone stole the sign and post and staged it on the property.

• 10:56 p.m. — Police responded to a single-vehicle crash at Chapel Drive and South 19th Street. A 19-year-old Philomath man was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving. The man was issued a citation in lieu of custody.

Other calls: Police responses included a found dog at 6:58 p.m. (Main Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 11:21 a.m. (Highway 20 west of Blodgett). PPD reported 20 traffic stops.

SUNDAY, FEB. 22

• 10:38 a.m. — Police arrested a 27-year-old Philomath man in the 1100 block of Applegate Street on a misdemeanor charge of third-degree theft in connection with a shoplifting case that dates back to Dec. 31.

• 12:56 p.m. — Police responded to a report from a citizen in the 1700 block of Applegate Street involving neighborhood children who were reportedly turning off the caller’s television with a remote control. The responding officer provided the resident with several options to resolve the issue.

• 11:17 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a 16-year-old male runaway. The officer searched the area and with help from a Benton County Sheriff’s Office deputy, other locations were checked. The juvenile was not located and his information was entered into the Law Enforcement Data System and National Crime Information Center databases.

Other calls: Police responses included a report of an argument at 2:22 a.m. (Main Street), citizen assistance on civil issue at 10:06 a.m. (North 14th Street) and a non-911 issue at 9:29 p.m. (South 15th Street). PPD reported four traffic stops.

MONDAY, FEB. 23

• 10:27 a.m. — Police arrested a 20-year-old Philomath man on a warrant for contempt of court during a traffic stop in the 900 block of Applegate Street.

• 12:33 p.m. — A 16-year-old boy reported missing the previous day was seen in Philomath. When police received the information, an hour had passed from the time of the sighting and the teen could not be located. Information was passed along to the appropriate agency.

• 3:44 p.m. — Police responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash in the 500 block of North 19th Street. The driver, a 52-year-old Alsea woman and the passenger, a 63-year-old Alsea woman, were transported via ambulance to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center reportedly with minor injuries. 

• 6:38 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run involving a stop sign at Applegate Street and South 16th Street that appeared to have been hit. Police were unable to locate a suspect.

• 10:11 p.m. — Police located the 16-year-old reported as missing on Feb. 22 walking on Applegate Street. The boy’s mother arrived at approximately the same time. Police determined that no crime had taken place and assisted them with arriving at an agreeable resolution. The juvenile voluntarily got into the car and went with his mother.

Other calls: Police responses included a report of possible theft and elder abuse at 8:54 a.m. (South 15th Street), civil dispute at 1:58 p.m. (South 15th Street) and a report of harassment at 2:08 p.m. (South 15th Street). PPD reported one traffic stop.

TUESDAY, FEB. 24

• 4:10 p.m. — Police assisted with the location of a person reported as missing from Linn County at North 16th Street and College Street. The individual was returned home safely.

• 4:51 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a male lying on the sidewalk with his feet hanging out into the bike lane in the 1800 block of Main Street. The man was found to be fine and was just waiting for the bus.

Other calls: Police responses included a noise disturbance at 5:08 p.m. (North 14th Street). In addition, police assisted another agency at 6:05 a.m. (Southwest Philomath Boulevard, Corvallis). PPD reported four traffic stops.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 25

• 8:36 a.m. — Police assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office with trying to locate a male near Southwest Reservoir Avenue and Southwest West Hills Road who reportedly was spinning his tires, “flipping off” traffic that passed by and had removed his shirt and was flexing. Police interviewed two witnesses that had observed the behavior.

Other calls: PPD reported three traffic stops.

THURSDAY, FEB. 26

• No calls of significance were reported.

Other calls: Police responses included a repossessed vehicle at 6:21 p.m. (South 19th Street) and citizen contact at 11:27 p.m. (Main Street). PPD reported one traffic stop.
