Work that had been scheduled for Feb. 23-24 will now take place in March during the school district’s spring break, Superintendent of Schools Susan Halliday said during the Feb. 20 Philomath School Board meeting.

“The repair work to do the install of the new filters and mechanical room repair were scheduled for Feb. 23-24 … and it has been postponed until March,” Halliday said. “Spring vacation is when they’re going to do the work due to a delay in equipment acquisition from the contractor.”

Rather than proceeding with the project in stages, the contractor opted to reschedule everything at once.

“So they felt that instead of coming and doing it in pieces and parts, it would be better to just reschedule the whole thing,” Halliday said.

Halliday noted that all approvals for the project have been finalized, including a plan review completed by the Oregon Health Authority.

The pool, located at Philomath High School, is scheduled to be open during spring break. The repair work will require closing the facility for at least two days, and potentially a third if complications arise, Halliday said.

The project is broken into two phases. The first covers the installation of new filters along with pipes, fittings and labor, carrying an estimated cost of $19,794. A second phase involving a chemical controller, supplies and labor is estimated at $6,850, bringing the total projected cost to $26,644.

Strong Refuge Pool, based out of Portland but with Corvallis listed among its service areas, was hired to lead the work.
