Philomath High freshman Makinzey Harrington punched her ticket to the state wrestling tournament with a runner-up finish at 135 pounds in the 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 1 Championships Friday and Saturday at Molalla.

The top four finishers in each weight class qualified for state, scheduled for Feb. 26-27 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

Harrington dominated her way to the championship match with three consecutive pins. She pinned Sheridan’s Kessandra Ewry-Tate in 49 seconds, followed by a 1:09 fall over Rainier’s Laila Hernandez in the quarterfinals and a 3:10 pin of Molalla’s Alvina Ruiz in the semifinals.

In the title bout, Harrington fell to Colton’s Samantha Starr by pin at the 4:36 mark.

Three other Warriors placed fifth in their respective weight classes but fell one spot short of qualifying for state.

Junior Alexis Pettit, who went 3-3 at 100 pounds, dropped her opening match to Rainier’s Tessa Newberry but battled through the consolation bracket with a 13-3 major decision over Tillamook’s Nya Yates and a 56-second pin of St. Helens’ Eva Bott. She suffered a loss to Tillamook’s Sadie Reynolds before rebounding with a 1:09 pin of Estacada’s Riley Svela in the fifth-place match. Pettit still had a shot at state but lost to Amity’s Cristal Martinez in the fourth-place match.

Freshman Carsyn Pettit-Juvenal also placed fifth, compiling a 4-3 record at 115 pounds. She opened with a 14-12 decision over St. Helens’ Natahlya Beranek, then recorded consecutive pins over Taft’s Ariandne Diaz Velazquez (0:51) and Banks’ Tianna Ramirez (1:02). After a semifinal loss to Toledo’s Zoey Welch, Pettit-Juvenal pinned Yamhill-Carlton’s Autumn Thompson in 2:54 in the consolation semifinals. She dropped a 15-13 decision to Beranek in a rematch for third place before losing to Tillamook’s Ainslee Hurliman in the fourth-place match.

Sophomore Sarah Robertson finished fifth at 125 pounds with a 4-2 record. She opened with a 12-4 major decision over Regis’ Mary Lynn McSorley before falling to Cascade’s Nevaeh Hampton. Robertson advanced through the consolation bracket with a 2:27 pin of Toledo’s Aushay Lucas, then lost to Rainier’s Rylee Hill. She secured fifth place with a 1:14 pin of Molalla’s Macy Hayes. Robertson did not advance to the fourth-place match as that would have been a rematch against Hill, an opponent she lost to in the consolation semis.

Freshman Rielly Ellingsen went 1-2 at 115 pounds with the win coming by pin in 3:00 over St. Helens’ Khloe Anderson. Sophomore Addison Liddell went 0-2 at 140 pounds.

Philomath placed 10th in the team standings with 80 points. St. Helens won the district title with 225 points.
