George W. Ross died at his apartments in the Eldridge block, in this city, Sunday, December 20, 1903, at the advanced age of 82 years, 1 month and 17 days, of disease pertaining to old age, having been a patient sufferer during an illness of four years.

The deceased was one of the early pioneers, having crossed the plains with an ox team in 1853, born in Ohio in 1821, and was married to Miss Malinda Laggett in Missouri in 1842, who preceded him to the Better Land in 1899.

Mr. Ross resided continuously in Benton county for nearly fifty years, where he has a large circle of friends and acquaintances. He removed to this city in July of the present year. He was the father of eleven children, six of whom survive him, namely, Mrs. Annie Lenger and William Ross, Corvallis; Mrs. Mary Huffman and A.M. Ross, Portland; Mrs. Nancy Leason, Moscow, Idaho; Miss Jessie Ross, Salem. The funeral will be held at the Methodist church, in Philomath, Tuesday, December 22, at 3 p.m.

Last Sunday.

The funeral of the late George W. Ross occurred in Philomath Tuesday. The deceased was born in Ohio, November 3, 1821, and died in Salem Sunday, December 20, 1903. He was aged 82 years, one month and 17 days.

His wife was a daughter of Alexander Legett, an early pioneer who came to Oregon in 47. He was the father of eleven children. Those surviving are Mrs. Nancy Leasur, of Moscow, Idaho, William Ross, of Corvallis; Mrs. Mary Huffman, of Portland; Mrs. Annie Lenger of Corvallis and Alexander Ross of Portland.
