The Philomath Public Art Committee will meet Thursday to finalize a call for artists for the city’s new temporary art program and continue developing a comprehensive public art plan.
The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Jan. 22 at Philomath City Hall and will be livestreamed on the city’s YouTube channel.
The committee will review a draft call for artists for the “Philomath Downtown Temporary Art Program 2026-2028,” which aims to place rotating sculptures on existing plinths installed as part of the Downtown Philomath Safety and Streetscape Improvements Project.
The program will feature up to six sculptures at various downtown locations. According to the proposed guidelines, selected artists will receive a $1,500 honorarium per sculpture and enter into a two-year lease agreement with the city. The call for artists is expected to be published Feb. 2.
According to the agenda, the committee will also continue work on drafting a public art plan, which is being designed to provide a roadmap for implementing and sustaining public art projects throughout Philomath.
The Public Art Committee includes volunteers Estella Murphy (chair), Jennifer Edwards, Candy Garcia, Lori Paul and Nina Petrovich. Mayor Christopher McMorran represents the city on the committee.
