The Philomath High School wrestling team went 3-3 at the Oregon Classic Friday and Saturday at the Deschutes County Fair and Expo Center in Redmond.
Six Warriors posted winning records at the two-day duals tournament, which featured divisions in all classifications. Senior Lake Mulberry was perfect with a 6-0 performance at 190 pounds — winning five matches on pins and another on a technical fall.
Senior Porter Compton finished 5-1 at 157 with two wins on pins, two more on technical falls and another on a decision. Senior Liam Bennett also posted a 5-1 record at 165 with all five of his victories on pins.
Senior Derick Kohn went 4-1 at 215, winning three matches on pins and another on a decision. Junior Odin Compton finished 4-2 at 138 with four wins on pins. Senior Lukas Hernandez also went 4-2 at 144, winning all four of his matches on pins.
Philomath opened the tournament with a 54-21 loss to Molalla before falling to La Grande 61-14 but then defeating Hidden Valley, 41-36, to complete the first day. On the second day, the Warriors were placed in the 4A Classic Cup bracket and the team posted victories over Madras, 45-29, and Marshfield, 41-40. Advancing to the bracket’s championship match, Philomath closed out the tournament with a 40-36 loss to Hidden Valley in a rematch.
Senior Braydon Williams (126), freshman Max Grapoli (132) and freshman Kellen Carlson (106) also won matches for the Warriors during the tournament.
Philomath’s next competition is scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Cottage Grove Senior Night Duals.
