The Philomath High School wrestling team competed in the Northwest Duals Monday and Tuesday at the Linn County Expo Center in Albany. Five wrestlers came away with winning records in the team’s eight duals.
Philomath’s Derick Kohn continued what has been an exceptional senior season so far with a perfect 8-0 performance at the tournament. Kohn won seven of those matches on pins. Six of his victories came at 215 pounds and the other two at 285.
Senior Lake Mulberry, a defending state champion, won seven of eight matches at 190. Mulberry had three wins on decisions with three pins and a technical fall.
Seniors Porter Compton and Lukas Hernandez each had six victories. Compton, wrestling at 157, won four on technical falls and another two on pins. Hernandez, competing at 144, won five on pins and another on a decision.
Junior Odin Compton at 138 finished the tournament with a 5-3 record — three victories on pins and others on a technical fall and decision.
Two-time state champion Riley Barrett, senior, wrestled only in the team’s first dual and then exited. Freshman Kellen Carlson (106), senior Braydon Williams (132) and senior Liam Bennett (165) also won matches for the Warriors during the two-day tournament.
With forfeits at several weights factoring into the results, Philomath went 2-6 in the duals and placed fifth in the Dick Wesibrodt division.
Philomath’s next competition is scheduled for Jan. 8 at the Benton County Championships, which the Warriors will host. The girls are scheduled to compete before that one on Friday at Junction City.
