Historic Preservation Northwest, an organization that focuses primarily on cemetery preservation, plans to host a cemetery cleaning workshop on Saturday, May 18, at Kings Valley Cemetery.

Sponsored by the Benton County Natural Areas, Parks and Events Department, the free workshop will be led by David Pinyerd and Bernadette Niederer and is scheduled to run from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Registration is not required and the level of participation is optional. All tools will be provided. Those planning to attend are asked to bring a lunch and drinking water. For those who would like to work, wear appropriate clothing and bring gloves.

The workshop agenda includes:

  • 10 a.m. — Introduction to cemetery preservation
  • 10:15 a.m. — Evaluating markers
  • 10:30 a.m. — Cleaning stones
  • 12:15 p.m. — Lunch
  • 1 p.m — Cleaning stones
  • 2:45 p.m. — Wrap up

Kings Valley Cemetery is located on the west side of Kings Valley Highway immediately after the intersection with Hoskins Road.
