SUMMARY:OSU Great Move-Out
DESCRIPTION:Benton County residents have an opportunity this weekend and into Monday to recycle old mattresses and box springs at no cost through a special collection event at the Benton County Fairgrounds. The event runs Saturday through Monday\, June 13-15\, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. While the collection is hosted by Oregon State University as part of its annual Great Move-Out — a year-end effort to keep usable and recyclable items out of the landfill as students vacate campus housing — organizers emphasize that participation is open to all Benton County residents\, not just students. \nThe recycling is made possible through the Mattress Recycling Council’s Bye Bye Mattress program\, which operates under an Oregon state law requiring mattress recycling infrastructure. This is the second year the program has partnered with OSU’s Great Move-Out. The Mattress Recycling Council is a nonprofit founded by the bedding industry. It operates recycling programs in Oregon and several other states\, recycling nearly 2 million mattresses annually. \nResidents with questions about the event can contact OSU at 541-737-7347. Those looking for additional drop-off locations or future collection events can search by zip code at ByeByeMattress.com.

SUMMARY:Quilts From Caring Hands
DESCRIPTION:The primary purpose of Quilts From Caring Hands is to bring the feeling of loving comfort to at-risk children in Oregon’s Benton\, Linn and Marion counties. These include those who are homeless\, drug addicted\, visually impaired\, or abused\, and those in foster care. Our quilts are distributed through designated social service agencies. \nEach quilt we make for a child is unique. In addition to crib- and twin-sized quilts\, we also assemble tactile quilts and “cuddlers” for visually impaired children.  The finished quilts and cuddlers are given away once each quarter. \nQCH is grateful to our sponsors for their support over the years. Quilts from Caring Hands is a volunteer-powered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.  All donations are tax deductible.

SUMMARY:Dementia Warriors Support Group Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Improving our journey together. \nJoin us from 2:30-4 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month at Peace Lutheran Church in Philomath\, Oregon. \nLoss of cognitive skills and/or memory loss can begin at any age\, and this is greatly worsened by social isolation. Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease are NOT “old-person’s diseases!” Statistics show that many people live with dementia\, on average\, about 10 years before seeking a diagnosis. Early detection gives you time to start self-care and stave off the onset. Knowledge is power! \nWe welcome differences and work together to be creative in enjoying life while navigating dementia. We offer support and connection to those with dementia and their families with twice-monthly support group meetings\, social outings\, easy walks\, coffee chats and a private Facebook group. Most importantly\, we offer hope and a renewed sense of purpose. \nPlease join your strengths with ours to make a better life. Togetherness is our greatest strength. \nWant to learn more? Contact Kim McAlexander at mcalexak@gmail.com.
