SUMMARY:Quilts From Caring Hands
DESCRIPTION:The primary purpose of Quilts From Caring Hands is to bring the feeling of loving comfort to at-risk children in Oregon’s Benton\, Linn and Marion counties. These include those who are homeless\, drug addicted\, visually impaired\, or abused\, and those in foster care. Our quilts are distributed through designated social service agencies. \nEach quilt we make for a child is unique. In addition to crib- and twin-sized quilts\, we also assemble tactile quilts and “cuddlers” for visually impaired children.  The finished quilts and cuddlers are given away once each quarter. \nQCH is grateful to our sponsors for their support over the years. Quilts from Caring Hands is a volunteer-powered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.  All donations are tax deductible.

DESCRIPTION:Registration is open for Lilly’s Lope for Hope\, an annual 5K run/walk raising awareness of youth suicide and supporting suicide prevention efforts in Benton County. \nThe timed 5K begins at 10 a.m.\, with check-in and in-person registration starting at 9 a.m. Participants of all ages are welcome\, including those using strollers or wheelchairs. Children under 3 participate free. \nAlong with the 5K\, the event features a Resource Fair with local agencies serving youth and teens\, and a fundraising raffle from 9-11 a.m. \nRegistration\, volunteer\, and sponsorship information is available at oldmillcenter.org. An early-bird registration discount is available through Sept. 30. \nNow in its 13th year\, Lilly’s Lope was created in memory of a Philomath High School student who died by suicide. Proceeds from the event help provide mental health counseling and suicide prevention education for youth in Benton County. \nOld Mill Center for Children & Families has presented Lilly’s Lope since 2023. “Lilly’s Lope gives our community a chance to come together\, talk openly about youth mental health and show young people that they are not alone\,” said Bettina Schempf\, Executive Director. “Every step helps support access to mental health services and suicide prevention education for local youth.” \nOld Mill Center is a Corvallis-based nonprofit founded in 1977. Its seven programs support the social\, emotional\, physical\, and mental health needs of families in Benton and Linn counties.

Attendees can also sign up for get-out-the-vote and election protection activities in the coming weeks. \nBenton County election officials are urging voters to vote early and use the ballot drop box instead of the postal service. Ballots will be mailed to voters Oct. 14\, and voters who receive them by Oct. 17 are encouraged to drop them in the ballot box at the courthouse during the event. Voters who haven’t received a ballot by Oct. 26 should contact the Benton County Elections Office at 541-766-6756. \nOrganizers say all No Kings events follow a shared commitment to nonviolence and community safety.
