City plans work session, public hearing, streetscape committee meetings next week

The Philomath City Council plans to meet on Monday for a work session and the Planning Commission will host a public hearing on Tuesday.

Councilors will meet virtually at 6 p.m. Monday to consider revisions to municipal code regarding rules of the council. The League of Oregon Cities has provided various provisions for cities to consider implementing in their council rules.

Public meeting laws prohibit the council from making a final decision on the matter but can direct the city manager to prepare draft language to be considered at a future regular meeting.

On Tuesday at 6 p.m., the Planning Commission will meet for a public hearing on an annexation application involving property on North 19th Street. The applicant’s proposal calls for future development at the site, which includes a 10-building campus, in an area on the west side of the street and south of the railroad tracks.

Known as Northernwood LLC and owned by Joseph Sullivan, the property is proposed to be zoned as light industrial. The campus would serve as home to various companies. The property is constrained by significant wetlands, the city reported.

Later in the week on Wednesday, the city’s Streetscape Design Review Ad Hoc Committee will meet for the first time. The group will review and make final decisions on pedestrian elements and amenities related to the timber town theme for the Downtown Safety and Streetscapes Project.

Beyond May 26, other future meetings are scheduled for June 9, June 23 and July 7.
