Softball team crushes Sisters in 4 innings, 15-0

The Philomath High School softball team flattened Sisters, 15-0, on Saturday afternoon in a game that ended in the fourth inning on the 15-run mercy rule. The Warriors scored 10 of their 15 runs in the third inning alone.

Philomath moves to 7-4 on the season and will play at home again on Monday vs. Woodburn. The regular season then ends on May 12 at Newport.

In the win over the Outlaws, Philomath pounded out 16 hits with seven of those going for extra bases. Sisters had six errors which played into the number of runs scored. Only two of the 15 runs were earned for Outlaws pitcher Payden Petterson.

The Warriors got on the scoreboard in the second with four runs. Presley Reichhuber opened the inning with a triple and scored on an Ashlynn Barron groundout. Later in the inning, Reagan Larson hit a two-run double and Emily King drove in another on a single.

In the 10-run third, Barron hit a double to right field to drive in a run. Ahnika Tryon then reached on an error while Barron scored for a 6-0 lead. Kaili Saathoff hit a one-run single to score Tyron.

Philomath scored the other seven runs of the inning with two outs. Melanie Baldwin reached on an error while two runners scored. Mia Bennett followed with a one-run single for a 10-0 PHS lead. Reichhuber hit her second triple of the game to drive in Bennett and then scored herself on a Barron single. Kelsey Olsen had a one-run single and Saathoff a one-run double for a 14-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, King and Baldwin hit back-to-back doubles to end the game on the 15-run rule.

Every batter in the PHS lineup had at least one hit. Larson went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Reichhuber was 2 for 3 with two triples. Barron went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Saathoff was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. King finished 2 for 4 with a double. Baldwin was 2 for 4 with a double. Reichhuber and Tryon each scored three runs.

Tryon threw three innings and allowed three hits and one walk with one strikeout. Adrianna Hunter threw the fourth inning and allowed two hits with no walks and no strikeouts.

Anna Landon went 2 for 2 for the Outlaws (5-8).
