PHS boys win, girls lose in tennis vs. Cascade

The Philomath High School boys tennis team won three of four doubles matches and split in singles to defeat Cascade on the road Friday afternoon, 5-3.

Dylan Bell and Nick Stucki remained unbeaten this season with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Cascade’s Jacob Farr and Colton Lee. Judah Bacho and Mark Grimmer at No. 2 doubles and Gradin Fairbanks and Ian Alba at No. 4 doubles also posted straight-set wins.

In singles, Teddy Benbow pulled out a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Carson Swift in the No. 3 slot. Tomas Harris was a winner at No. 4 singles over Jacob Hage, 6-3, 6-4.

Cascade won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches. Philomath’s Dawson Beckstead dropped his match against Cougars ace Zach Moore. Andrew Leonard went three sets against Austin Thatcher but lost, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The boys’ schedule is not showing any other regular-season matches. The district tournament appears to be next for the team.
