Warriors drop volleyball match at Sisters

The Philomath High School volleyball team traveled to Sisters to face one of Class 4A’s toughest teams Thursday night and dropped the match in straight sets, 25-6, 25-16 and 25-11.

The Warriors competed without head coach Denee Newton and top hitter Sage Kramer.

Sisters has been a roll with an overall record of 9-1, which has included victories over several high-caliber opponents. Earlier this week, the Outlaws defeated an exceptional 6A team, Summit, in four sets. Sisters also handed Crook County and Sweet Home their only losses this season.

Philomath drops to 0-3. The Warriors not only played with their head coach and a key player missing, but the program has been playing catch-up to other volleyball programs because of a late start to the season. Benton County’s COVID-19 risk level prohibited the team from playing over the first couple of weeks.

Philomath High’s statistics program did not log accurate information but Maddie Fields was the team’s top hitter on the evening. Assistant Juleia Dooley coached the varsity.

The Warriors will be busy in the coming days with a match Friday night at home against Woodburn — the first this season to be played in the PHS gym — and then again on Monday against visiting Sweet Home and Wednesday against Stayton.
