PHS girls post 4-0 soccer victory over Sisters

The Philomath High School girls soccer team came at Sisters from all directions on Saturday afternoon in a 4-0 victory on Crescent Valley’s field.

“We strung together some nice passes and finished them well,” PHS coach Mat Phelps said. “It was great to see so many different girls involved in the goals.”

Four different players scored goals for the Warriors. Freshman Bailey Bell scored in the game’s 11th minute with an assist to senior Kaili Saathoff.

Fourteen minutes later, senior Alivia Pittman found the net to give the Warriors a 2-0 advantage. Senior Braedyn McNeely was credited with the assist.

Just before halftime, Philomath came up with a third goal. In the 39th minute, Saathoff scored with the assist going to Bell.

Philomath added its fourth goal in the 59th minute. Sophomore Mia Cook scored with the assist going to Pittman.

The Warriors took 29 shots on goal in the victory. Goalkeeper Bailie Couture had seven saves.

“Defense held strong and Hailie played well in goal,” Phelps said. “We were sluggish at times but were still able to fight through.”

The game didn’t start on time with Sisters arriving at the field late.

The Warriors (1-1) are scheduled to play their next game on March 13 against Stayton. The contest will be played at Crescent Valley.
